La gobernadora Angela Grey Pérez Díaz y el Fondo Especial para el Desarrollo Agropecuario (FEDA), anunciaron la realización de la segunda versión del Festival del Tomate “Azua 2024” a celebrarse del 8 al 11 de febrero, en el parque Duarte de esta ciudad.
Grey Pérez, creadora de evento aseguró que luego del éxito del primer festival el comité organizador ha preparado un amplio y variado programa de actividades para esta nueva versión, y destacó que el tomate “es una marca pueblo, un proyecto provincia que nos abarca a todos, es un sello que caracteriza a la provincia de Azua y la coloca en un sitial como la provincia capital del tomate en la República Dominicana”
“Es un compromiso de Azua, un compromiso de amor, un proyecto que impulsamos y soñamos día tras día y que iremos mejorando” expresó la funcionaria, quien agradeció el apoyo y la integración del director ejecutivo del FEDA, Hecmidio Garván y demás funcionarios y empleados de esa institución. Agregó que este año el Festival del Tomate será una celebración de cuatro días, donde los azuanos, los sureños, los dominicanos y los visitantes extranjeros disfrutarán del fruto.
Pérez aseguro que el encuentro contará con convencías, actividades familiares, la venta de la variada línea de productos de las agroindustrias Linda, La Famosa y Victorina y una gran diversidad de productos agrícolas a precios accesibles. Además, la exhibición y venta de la artesanía y una variada programación artística y cultural; degustaciones y “cooking show” todos los días, cuyo atractivo predominante en cada receta es el tomate que tendrá un concurso culinario con premios en metálico para los mejores platos.
Durante el encuentro estuvieron presentes: Bernardo Patricio, del Ministerio de Agricultura; Lover Vargas, del Instituto Agrario Dominicano; Víctor Ramírez, del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente; Olinca Reyes, el Ministerio de Turismo; Adriano Almánzar, gerente de la División Agrícola de Linda y en representación de la Asociación de Productores de Conservas del Agro (Afconagro) los empresarios Amaury Sandino Ruiz Ruiz, presidente de la empresa Agua Buena; Nancy Familia, propietaria del Restaurant, El Mesón Suizo y Apolinar de León Medrano, presidente del Instituto Duartiano Azua.
Desde hace unos 50 años, la siembra de tomate industrial ha jugado un rol trascendental en el desarrollo económico de la provincia Azua, gracias a la construcción del canal Yaque del Sur, en 1976, “a través de un significativo caudal de agua, permitió a millares de agricultores azuanos encontrar en la siembra de tomate industrial la herramienta idónea para la transformación de sus vidas” puntualizó Grey Pérez.
